Tribal Fusion workshops are suitable for beginning and intermediate tribal dancers, but some bellydance experience is necessary. The Advanced Topics workshop will be geared for intermediate to advanced Tribal dancers. Tribal experience a must for this class.

Workshop location at Hopkins High School - 2400 Lindbergh Drive, Minnetonka, Minnesota - in the Aerobics Room. Check in at 9:30 for the morning classes and 1:30 for the afternoon classes.

Weaving it Together: Technique-Focused Dance Combinations.

In this class we will not only work on honing our dance technique, we will put it to good use as we put those moves we have drilled ever so faithfully! We will learn and create some fun combinations that can be incorporated into your own repertoire, keeping strong muscular skill and alignment well in hand so the creative juices are free to flow! As we weave our moves into combos, we shall then weave the combos into a choreography to take with us! This class is fun and appropriate for all levels of Tribal-flavored dancer, and those new to Tribal Style are encouraged to give it a try. Some Bellydance experience is recommended. Please wear exercise-friendly clothes and bring something to tie around your hips!

Tribal Fusion Drills:

This class will largely focus on posture and technique. We will begin with basic drills and move onto more complex drills and then put these movements into short combinations. This class is great for beginners and an excellent review and workout for intermediate dancers.

Layering Tribal Fusion Movements with Control and Precision:

This class will begin with posture and technique drills, focusing on executing movements correctly and gaining muscle memory which is crucial in layering. We will continue by layering these movements on top of each other and eventually working towards layering 3 movements at a time. These moves will then be put into combinations and a short choreography will be introduced. All levels are welcome, beginning and advanced variations will be offered.

Tools of the Trade - A Breakdown of Advanced Moves for the Experienced Tribal Dancer:
This class is designed for the dedicated Bellydance student, and is suggested for dancers with several years of experience in Tribal Bellydance or Suhaila Salimpour technique. Here we will cover more advanced topics such as precise multi-layered movement, footwork, turning technique, floor work and preperation for backbends. Beginning and ending with a Yoga warm up and cool down, we will stretch and prepare the body, and each student will be encouraged and assisted in creating their own strengthening and conditioning routine to take home and practice each day, in order to help them meet their personal goals as a dancer. Bring a mat, a notebook and pen.

So, being at Tribal Fest this weekend made me miss Brenda from Tribal to the Max so much... does anyone know what happened to her?

She just disappeared! I've emailed her, tribed her, even called her, but nothing.

She used to be the moderator of this tribe until Corrie was gracious enough to take over since apparently Brenda had been in-active on tribe for many months... anybody?

Kami inspired sticker

Have you ever been so tired...

you are just delirious?

That's me, right now. I'm laying in a bed, finally with internet access... anyhow, haven't had a full night's sleep in three days!

We departed from Italy thursday night after our show in Torino to board a plane that was chartered just for us, to fly to Beirut, then jumped on a commercial flight to Dubai. We arrived around 5pm, just in time to get to the fancy hotel we were performing at. After the show we drove around Dubai and saw the crazy building going on there, that place is just insane. Anyhow, we got a quick bite, went back to the hotel for one hour, I repeat, ONE HOUR, of sleep before we departed for the airport at 5:30pm. We flew to Amsterdam, then transfered to Milan to board a bus to then drive straight to Bergamo for our last show on our Italian tour.

It has been amazing and exhausting all at the same time. We were only in Dubai for twelve hours. Performing in Dubai was crazy... I found I was very nervous to play the riq and doumbek there, more so than I was to dance. The audience seemed a bit dazed and confused by the tribal pieces, but they came around after a while and seemed to be very open minded.

We leave in two days for Casablanca for a few days off and for two shows. From there I travel to England and Spain for workshops and then finally home. If you've been trying to get ahold of me it has probably been really difficult the past month. I haven't had much internet access and my phone is broken. I've pretty much been on the road since the beginning of February and have been terrible at answering emails, so if you have written me, please be patient, I will get to you.

I was just going through my old tapes... and ran across a little gem. A Solo and Duet of Kami and Rachel Brice at Kajira Djoumahna's 1st Maui Intensive in 2005. I remembered being stunned by the performance. Since this was before YoutTube I had kinda forgotten it.

Kami Liddle:

collaborates wh iotther dancers. She is a guest artist for The Indigo,

Boom Bollywood on choreography and periodically performs with the
company. Kami was nominated for "Best Kept Secret" and "Best
interpretive Artist" for 2005
Zaghareet Magazine and won the title "Entertainer of the Year 2005" at
the Wiggles of the West. Kami currently tours with The Bellydance
Superstars.

Samantha Riggs:
Samantha Riggs is the Founder, Artistic Director, Choreographer and Lead
Dancer for bothB oom Boom Bollywood and The Sexy Scallywags Pirate
Circus in Tempe, Arizona, and is a performer with Fyrae fire arts
troupe. She was the assistant director as well as a core dancer,
teacher, musician and choreographer Dfoorm ba Tribal Fusion Dance Troupe
(winners of the 2006 Zaghareet "Best Troupe" award) from 1996 until
their dissolution in October of 2006. Samantha has traveled the world
teaching Bollywood Style Dance, Tribal Style Bellydance, Tribal Fusion,
Fire Arts and Pirate Bellydance. Her serious obsession with Bollywood
movies has, over the years, infected others... leading to her higher
goal of connection and understanding between the Western and the Ind-Ao
merican communities. Samantha has a long history on stage withm any

It was my very first ever tribal class of any kind, Ive only ever worked from dvd's before, as there are only traditional arabic classes round where I live..

Really beautiful movements & combo's, learnt some great new stretches too!

Mexico City Workshop Postponed!

Hey... if you were planning on attending the workshops this weekend in Mexico City, they've been postponed. I'm up in the Bay Area and my flight was cancelled out of SF and there was no way of getting me out of this place!

While on tour I tend to completely drop out from the world. I have a hard time keeping up with friends and making sure I call my parents every week. I fall behind on emails, workshop descriptions, paying bills on time, etc. This tour has been especially hard for me to keep up with the real world. I think it is because I have to save ever single last drop of energy I have in order to get through the show.

The U.S. tours tend to be very hard on us. We still have the same tour bus (yup, if you've read Dondi, Rachel's or Belly Queen's blogs about past U.S. tours, we are still rollin in the same bus) but I refuse to refer to it as a bus... it is a airport shuttle van. Seriously. People have tried to load onto the bus out front of hotels thinking it is the airport shuttle. We usually die laughing. This vehicle has no bathroom. There are no beds. There is no place to sleep, except for jamming stuff in the floor space in your area so that you can try to lay flat and not fall off your two seats... that is if you have two seats. Four of the girls this tour are sharing on aisle, meaning one seat each. The drives on this tour have been crazy; many nights we drive for up to 200 miles after a show and then a few hundred miles again the next day before the show. I mapped our tour on this site... www.gmap-pedometer.com/ As you can see, we are doing a lot of driving back and forth. By this point in tour we have traveled 6,911 miles by bus, er, shuttle van. We are currently in Iowa, but our trip to Detroit will be the most gruesome of the tour; 162 mile drive tonight and 428 mile drive before our show tomorrow. All of us are feeling it physically. Some nights my body is so tight I can hardly manage to make it into a backbend or do sharp hip locks or even shimmy.

Yet, through all of these hardships we must go through, we all love what we do and are happy to be here. We are a big family unit. At a coffee shop in Cleveland the lady working the counter said, "You girls are all so sweet to each other" and I hugged Jayna and said, "We're all we've got!" Being part of this troupe has been so rewarding to me in so many ways and I am thankful to be able to work with such a strong, talented and hard working bunch of ladies.

The audiences have been amazing and we greatly appreciate all of the zaghareeting, yelling, hooting, clapping and hollering we recieve. Getting that kind of response and love from the audience is what keeps us going!

I just wanted to put it out there how wonderful this woman is...
NOT only amazingly talented.... (I loved the extra soft emotional hand inflections of your solo to the mixed billieH., and the sharpness of the head movements to make iot look like your head just popped off!.. so friggin cool)
But this woman is one of the most chill, down to earth people in the bidness... I feel so comfortable to talk with her, chat about past experiences and things that inspire us. She is ego-less and humble as can be, which makes what she does with dance all the more powerfull and believeable.
AND THEN, she pulls stuff like clothe my 3.5 year old and bring him to me at breakfast (she won me over right there!)She's graduated to Auntie Kami!

I just had such a wonderful time hanging out with you this weekend and getting to know you more and more... I can't wait for the next time!

I voted for Kami for the 2007 Golden Belly award for Best Interpetive Artist. I'll never forget the first time I witnessed her skills at Bloodmoon 2004 dancing to Portishead and The Prodigy. Hey, I took Kami's Funky Combos workshop at Raqs B. The music she used was really different to what I would normally danced to and I was wondering if anybody else who took it knew any of the songs or artists. I would have asked at the end but it ran on a bit longer and I had a train to catch.

So, I ordered that Evolution DVD that Kami is in and I gotta say that her performance was THE BEST!!! Ya, there were other great dancers and performers on there, and I give 'em mad respect, BUT Kami was DA BOMB!!!
I've always been a fan, and I took her workshop in Spokane (which was awesome!) and I love her...but I think she really has become my favorite tribal fusion dancer... (with RB, Mardi and Zoe up there in that realm of amazementand beauty)
She's just soooo elegant and poised and graceful.... And soooo beautiful!
I think sometimes some dancers try so hard to get all their tricks and coined moves in, that it just looks like they're diggin for material, or trying too hard and it can come out kind of choppy or forced... But not with Kami... She always looks so flawless and makes everything look so easy and effortless!
I wuv you, Kami!!!

my Kami-inspired solo performance =)

Hi there,

last year I saw Kami dancing her awesome solo to Enduser's Vishnus Eastern Block in Hamburg. I had this song on my computer for quite a while and wasn't sure how to dance to it...than I waas totally blown away by Kamis intepretation and started working with the piece right away. So my solo contains a lot of her wonderful ideas that inspired me so much. Hopefully it's not too much copycat-like *gg*
It also gave me the chance to use some of stuff I learned in Kamis breaks&waves workshop.
I performed the solo at our annual bellydance show at the university (UniOriental 2006)
So, have a look and enjoy =)

ALERT: Stolen Costuming

If any of you have dealt with Cleopatra's Bazaar, be aware that the Queen has been robbed. Audra left her truck for half an hour and came back to a smash and grab situation. And feel free to cross-post this wherever you consider appropriate.

Because many of us buy stuff over the net, I suggest you keep an eye out for any stuff that fits this description and report it if you do. Audra is here on Tribe and probably on this tribe to boot.

Here is what she posted earlier:

Yup, my stuff was stolen from my truck on Saturday night, April 14th, 2007 between 11:30 pm and 12:10 am in Sarnia, Ontario after the gala performance over the weekend. Window smashed and whole suitcase taken... The police feel that it was a targeted attack, meaning someone knew what was in that case and wanted it.

I just want it back if anyone knows where it is, who has it - PLEASE return it to me and I'll ask no questions. It's taken me years to collect all this stuff, most of it was purchased for specific reasons at specific times in my dance and regular life. I hate that I left it in the truck even thought it was only 30 minutes tops, but please......

My full costume including my turquoise & purple pin striped frilly pants, a black and grey striped skirt, my purple Mardi Love yarn belt and loads of tribal jewellery. My glasses, my make up, a favorite pair of leg warmers and arm warmers.

The jewellery includes
2 pairs of Miao spikey bracelets
3 pairs of large guage earring - 1 pair large heavy hoops is smaller guage, lots of danglies, a pair from bali also hoops and a pair of plain hoops large guage
1 modern choker with blue rhinestones center piece and purple small crystals (looks a little like a pooka shell necklace) that my hubby bought me for the birth of our last son
Large hinged silver bracelet that's a heavy thick bangle style with a flat rectangluar section on the hinged part
2 large afghani rings with burgundy stones
1 bangle style bracelet that's a heavy mesh metal with a long dangle
1 pair antique rajistani anklets with finely detailed chain and pin closure
1 antique flilgree and detailed piece that could be used for a belt or head piece
3 maio hair sticks
